NAWPH Braille Press

This Institution has established a High Speed Computerized Braille Press under Central Sector Scheme of “Support for Establishment of Braille Presses” with support from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Disability Affairs, Government of India. The Nodal Agency for this Project i.e. National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Dehradun has been monitoring this activity.

In Vidarbha, Marathwada and Khandesh regions in the State of Marashtra, there are nearly 100 Special Schools working for education of students with visual impairments beside Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Before our Braille Press; there was only Braille Press in Mumbai to provide Braille books to the students with Visual impairment in the State. It is beyond their capacity to provide sufficient Braille Books. So the students with visual challenges have been deprived to get Braille Text Books well in time. As we have established the Braille Press in Amravati, the Bal Bharati (Maharashtra State Bureau of Text Books Production and Curriculum Research Pune) has authorized this Braille Press to Produce & Distribute Text Books in Braille in 11 Districts in the State of Maharashtra. In this context, most of the Schools working for Visually Impaired Children have submitted their request to supply Text Books in Braille with Free of Cost.

Keeping in view of lack of Literatures in Braille script for students and persons with visual challenges, this NAWPH has established a high speed computerized Braille press at Amravati from the Session 2019-20 in order to produce and provide Braille books to persons with visual challenges.
We’re hopeful that, this Braille Press will be helpful in catering the need of Academic, Co-curricular, Spiritual Literatures in Braille for persons with visual impairments, those who are still deprived from the worthy and detailed knowledge.
